DESCRIPTION:Gambling Harm: Impacts Across Culturally Diverse Communities \nBRMC invites all members to join us for an informative discussion as our presenters look at gambling through the lens of culture\, vulnerability and human rights. Our panellists will also discuss some of the prevention programs being undertaken locally to tackle gambling-related harm. \nWhen: Thursday 23rd May\, 6pm – 8pm\nWhere: Barkly Square\, 25-39 Barkly St\, Ballarat \nGAMBLING – EMPOWERING THE VULNERABLE TO FIGHT BACK\nArnold Zable is an acclaimed Australian writer\, novelist\, storyteller and human rights advocate. An award-winning author\, some of Zable’s best-known books include Jewels and ashes\, Café Scheherazade\, the Fig Tree\, Scraps of Heaven\, Sea of Many Returns\, Violin Lessons\, and recently\, The Fighter. With a doctorate from the School of Creative Arts\, Melbourne University\, Zable is an engaging lecturer\, speaker and workshop facilitator\, and has extensive experience working with refugees and immigrants\, the homeless people experiencing gambling-related harm\, and other vulnerable members of society. This presentation provides inspiration on empowering the vulnerable. \nTanika James will give a local perspective on the harms of gambling. Tanika is the Gamblers’ Help Community Educator and Venue Support Worker at Child and Family Services Ballarat Inc.
