SUMMARY:safeTALK Training
DESCRIPTION:safeTALK is a three-hour suicide alert workshop. This session is free to attend as it is funded by the Ballarat & District Suicide Prevention Network\, through a community grant from the Central Livestock Exchange. \nThis event is supported by the Ararat Suicide Prevention Network\, AME Systems and the Grampians Pyrenees Primary Care Partnership. \nPlaces are limited so please register ASAP!\nwww.eventbrite.com.au/e/a-suicide-alert-workshop-safetalk-august-14-2019-ararat-tickets-65083892675 \nTraining is important for everyone over the age of 16\, so our community is aware\, alert\, informed\, capable and responsive to prevent suicide.\nPlaces are limited so please register ASAP! \nAttend a safeTALK session to learn how to: \n\nnotice and respond to situations where thoughts of suicide may be present\nprovide practical help by using the TALK steps (Tell\, Ask\, Listen and Keep safe)\nact quickly to connect the person with someone trained in suicide intervention\ncontribute to building a safer community\n\nDid you know: \n\napproximately 70% of people who die by suicide are employed\n50% of suicides are by people that do not have a mental illness\, but experience complex life situations and are psychologically distressed\nmale suicide rates are three times higher than females\n8 people die by suicide in Australia each day\nit is estimated that for every death by suicide 30 people attempt to end their lives\napproximately 65\,300 attempt suicide each year\nwith every suicide approximately 135 people are affected by that death\n\n
